Purpose of the trip
The visit aims to give Dutch organisations and companies the opportunity to establish contacts with potential partners/relations in northern Italy. You will learn more about the 2026 Winter Games, the venues and business opportunities, including tenders. You will meet Italian industry associations and companies and relevant stakeholders at the venues. You will visit companies and organisations that value innovation. We also aim to create sustainable connections between Italian and Dutch parties and between Dutch parties. As a Dutch entrepreneur, this visit is an excellent opportunity for you to profile yourself in a collective with Dutch innovative and sustainable characteristics.
Winter Games 2026
The 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo and will be the first Winter Games in 20 years at a relatively short distance from the Netherlands. A challenge to organise such a big event in Europe with the tight new guidelines from both IOC and from the Italian organisation in terms of sustainability and cost containment.
With the Winter Games on the programme, Italy is investing a lot of money in the venues where the Games will take place, but also in the infrastructure around them. Sports facilities that have been in use for some time will be renovated and the Olympic villages that will be built will be given an important function even after the Games. This will also give a major boost to new solutions for (e-)mobility, water and waste recycling, for example. The organisation is thinking of sustainable solutions such as electric buses, but adjacent sectors such as hospitality, clothing or food can also take an important step towards more innovative and sustainable products towards the Winter Games. In addition, the organisation is always interested in innovative solutions for the 'fan experience' or digital solutions for security.
Together with RVO and SportsNL, the Milan CG commissioned a report to highlight opportunities for the Winter Olympics, but also to look at the entire sports sector in Italy. The report "Sports and innovation opportunities - winter Olympic and paralympic games Italy 2026" can be found here.
What to expect.
During this mission, we will support organisations in exploring business opportunities on the following topics:

Purpose of the sports mission
The aim of the sports mission is to gain valuable insights and make relevant connections with LA's sports sector, ecosystem, and sports market. In addition, we aim to present and position the Netherlands and your organisation in the LA region well in advance of the upcoming World Cup 2026 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028.
About Los Angeles
Home to a multitude of professional sports teams, LA hosts multiple events on a weekly basis throughout the year, captivating local and global fans. The city's most iconic sports franchises include the LA Lakers, LA Galaxy, LAFC, LA Kings, LA RAMS, Angel City, LA Chargers, LA Clippers, and the LA Dodgers. With a strong fan base, these clubs have won numerous championships, making them the pride of the city and a source of inspiration for the next generation of aspiring athletes.
Moreover, Los Angeles has a rich history of hosting major sporting events. The city has hosted the Olympics twice, in 1932 and 1984, proving its prowess in organising and conducting large-scale athletic spectacles.
In other words, LA is the sports capital of the United States and an obvious place to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA'28). The budget for LA'28 alone is USD 6.9 billion. With this hefty sum, LA'28 aims to host the most sustainable and inclusive Olympic Games.
If you want to know more about opportunities related to the Olympic Games 2028, read the RFO market report on opportunities in The U.S. Market for Sports Innovation or the market report 'Olympic Games 2028 Los Angeles' that came out shortly after the awarding of the Olympic Games 2028.
What can you expect on this mission?
The mission will support you in developing business and relationships in LA by putting you in touch with potential decision-makers and influencers who are otherwise hard to reach. The visit should also help position the Netherlands as an ideal partner for the upcoming World Football Championship 2026 and the Olympic Games 2028.
The timing of the mission offers a unique opportunity to build a network in a timely manner, as the mission takes place well before the 2028 World Cup and Olympics.
In addition, the mission coincides with the annual Sports Innovation Conference (SIC) 2023, organised by the LA Sports Council. The SIC 2023 will take place on 17 October at the state-of-the-art Sofi Stadium (the venue for LA'28's opening ceremony).
The LA Sports Council has more than 80 members, including all the renowned sports clubs and venues in LA. During SIC 2023, delegates can meet LA Sports Council members and partners and learn more about the latest trends, developments, and ambitions in the LA sports sector.

Opportunity seminar Sport & Innovation on Italy 2026 Winter Games
Are you a sports entrepreneur? And is interested in the Italian market? Then come to the opportunity seminar 'Sport & Innovation Winter Games Italy 2026' on Monday 19 June at 4:00 pm at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) in The Hague.
During the seminar we will present the results of the study 'Sports and Innovation Opportunities in reference to the Winter Olympic and Paralympic games in Italy in 2026'.
2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games in Italy
The 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will take place in February, in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. The winter games provide many market opportunities for the Dutch sports sector to do business in Italy. We mainly see opportunities for companies that are sustainable and innovative.
Opportunities for Dutch companies
The Italian economy is large and versatile. Italy is the 6 th largest export partner of the Netherlands, with € 25 billion in goods exports. Dutch imports from Italy amount to € 15 billion. We mainly import consumer products and semi-finished products that go through complicated production processes in both countries.
B2B companies often work together with Italian partners, from design to maritime and from textiles to precision technology.
The Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will create additional market opportunities:
sports infrastructure and facilities (which must be accessible to all);
transportation;
electric and local transport;
water and waste;
digitization and connections;
catering and accommodation;
crowd accompaniment;
knowledge and research of materials.
Opportunities report 'Sports and Innovation Opportunities'
The Dutch embassy in Rome, the Dutch consulate-general in Milan and RVO have investigated the market opportunities for Dutch entrepreneurs in Italy. We will present the results of that research during the opportunity seminar on 19 June. The focus is on descriptions of the Italian sports sector, such as:
How is the market structured and organized?
Which sectors play a role in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2026?
What are the main organizations in the Italian regions of Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino and Alto Adige?
How is Italian government policy, especially for sustainability?
What are the Italian laws and regulations like?

Opportunity seminar on the sports industry in Germany
Are you an entrepreneur in the sports sector and are you interested in discovering the German market? Would you like to work with German partners to increase your chance of success? Then come to the opportunity seminar in The Hague on Monday 15 May.
We present the sector study 'Digital landscape analysis for Dutch tech companies in the German sports market.'
Sports and technology
Technology is impacting the way we play, manage, and engage with sports around the world. Whether it's wearables, data analysis in professional leagues, or even the fight against COVID19 - digital technology is becoming increasingly important within sports.
Opportunities for Dutch companies
A digital transformation has permeated all sports in Germany. But according to experts, this transformation, with the exception of football, is not quite up to speed yet. The Netherlands has a large and innovative sports infrastructure sector. This not only leads to many successes in the Netherlands but also focuses strongly on opportunities abroad.

To familiarise entrepreneurs with Germany, a study was commissioned by the Netherlands Business Support Office in Hamburg and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). Sascha Nagel and Sebastian Kurczynski of the German company Nielsen Sports will present this report on May 15.
The report maps out the opportunities for Dutch companies from the sports sector or related industries in Germany. Industries that may be of interest:

Study trip Sport Positive Summit London
This text is an excerpt taken from and published on behalf of More2Win.
General information
It is now clear that we need to work on a more sustainable existence worldwide. Sport is a small player in this, but with a big voice. It has the perfect stage to make a positive impact and combat climate change. But how do you do this as an organisation in sports or via the sports platform? This question is not easy to answer.
During this study trip to London, we will look for answers and concrete tools for how your organisation can achieve a positive and sustainable result. We participate in the two-day Sport Positive Summit and get an exclusive look behind the scenes of a number of organisations that are at the forefront in this field. And that's not all: we do this together with a group of colleagues from Dutch organisations that we spend four days with. It is very pleasant and moreover we increase our network and we can share knowledge and opportunities with each other.
Sports Positive Summit London 2022
We will visit the Sport Positive Summit. This is the world's largest conference bringing together sports industry stakeholders from around the world to support the acceleration of positive climate action and ambition to secure the future of global sport. The Sport Positive Summit offers a platform where people can learn from each other, where new tools are shown and where efforts are made to develop and collaborate. The Sport Positive Summit 2022 will take place in a beautiful and sustainable location; the Wembley stadium in London. For more information, click here .
Why are we doing this?
Of course we do this because this theme is close to our heart, about the future of our planet and especially the generations that come after us. But we also do this to show that climate and positive results for your organisation can go hand in hand. So that you can really make a difference with your organisation. Positive impact. Positive return.
What are we doing?
From 2 to 6 October 2022, we will travel with Eurostar to London by train to learn from each other, motivate and activate each other in the field of sustainability and sport. We will visit a number of leading organisations that deal with and lead the way in (sports and) sustainability on a daily basis. Think of Wimbledon, Tottenham Hotspur or Formula E. We will also attend a (top) sports competition to take you into all the sustainability aspects that come with such an event. In the following days, the Sport Positive Summit is central. Here we can gather the latest, worldwide knowledge about sport and sustainability. With inspiring examples that you can take to your own organisation. From Must Do, to Can Do.
For whom?
We have organised this trip for Dutch companies, knowledge institutions and organisations from the sports event industry, competitions, clubs and the sponsor world with an interest in sport and sustainability.
